I’ve been offline from the blog for a couple of weeks :) But I’m back again today with some Pony Effect. Pony’s “Pony Effect” collection has such professional and beautiful packaging, which made this little haul even more exciting. More recently there have been a few new Pony Effect product releases. After thinking about it for a while, I decided to buy the Everlasting Cushion Foundation (KRW 39,000), Favourite Fluid Lip Tint (KRW 18,000) and the Sharping Brow Definer (KRW 14,000). Here’s a quick look at what I thought of each product.
Everlasting Cushion Foundation
As a beauty blogger herself, I felt like Pony would be more in touch with the real wants/needs of people who use cushion foundation, so I had high hopes for this cushion foundation. But I have to say I’m disappointed :(
Let’s start with things I like first. The formula has SPF50+PA+++ which is really good. It also has a really nice creamy consistency. It’s not a liquid, it is really like a light cream. The coverage is incredible. With one layer it’s medium coverage and it’s not difficult to get to high coverage. The finish is a really beautiful creamy dewy finish when you first apply the foundation.
However… once the foundation settles, the dewiness disappears. It’s like it’s a foundation moisturiser. Once you apply it the moisture soaks in and your left with a more satin looking finish. This type of finish is fine, BUT the formula is not very friendly to your skin’s textural imperfections. Fine lines and dry areas are seriously highlighted once the moisture soaks into the skin.
I would say that the formula lasts a long time. But as time goes on, it seems to highlight imperfections more and more, until a breaking point is reached where my skin begins to get oily and the lost moisture from the formula (having soaked into the skin) is replaced with my oil (yes, sounds gross…) and the dewiness returns, but with dry areas still highlighted, particularly around my nose.
I am not sure if this is the case because I’m using it in dryer autumn/winter weather. However, the creaminess of the product would suggest it wouldn’t be as great for warmer and more humid weather.
This product does come in five shades with pink and yellow understand shades.
The packaging is gorgeous. The square shaped case is incredibly thin. It’s as thin as the new Innisfree cases. It’s so thin, the cushion cartridge actually sticks out the bottom. I love the black and gold, but the glossy plastic does get fingerprints on it very easily.
The lid has a magnetic closure, which is different to the usual click lid closures of other cushions. The mirror inside is full size to the case, but I find it does distort images slightly.
The applicator puff is really good though. Instead of the usual light sponge applicator puff, this one feels like a velvety and dense sponge puff. It’s much more weighty and applies the product smoothly and flawlessly without much effort.
Each cushion cartridge has 15g product inside. And it comes with one extra refill.
Favorite Fluid Lip Tint
Like the name suggests, this one is like a glossy liquid lipstick that has the staying power of a tint. When you first apply it, it is glossy, and feels like a well pigmented liquid lipstick. But as the gloss fades, the pigmentation stays like a tint and lasts for a long time. It didn’t fade with drinking water from a glass or bottle, but did fade through a meal.
Of course it is look dependent as to whether a more glossy or matte lip product suits the look I’m going for, but I tend to generally like glossy and liquid lipsticks type tints a bit more. They give a bit more moisture to the lips.
The tube is fully rose gold, with the “Pony Effect” logo on the side being the only clear part where you can see the shade inside the tube. The applicator isn’t a doe foot, but more like a paddle. Which I don’t mind. It has some flex in it too.
Sharping Eyebrow Definer
Umm, what does “sharping” mean? Anyway, regardless of my struggles to understand the meaning of the name of this eyebrow pencil, I really like it. Before this eyebrow pencil, I really liked the Etude House Drawing Eyebrow pencil. I still like that one. But this one is more like love. Firstly, it’s a mechanical pencil, which I much prefer to normal pencils. I have this thing against sharpening makeup pencils. Eyebrow pencils or eyeliners I always prefer not to need to sharpen them. Secondly, this pencil has a really really thin tip, which makes mimicking eyebrow hairs really easy when applying it. The thin tip has been compared to the Anastasia Brow Wiz. I haven’t owned one of those before. I’ve never been able to bring myself to buy one cos of the price tag! But I have played around with them in store and I think that it’s fair to say that this Pony Effect one, at 1.5mm, is just as thin, if not thinner, than the Anastasia Brow Wiz. Thirdly, the formula is so smooth. There is no tug on the brow at all when I use it. And the pigmentation is just right. It’s not too strong so that I end up looking like I’m Red from Angry Birds.
This pencil comes in five shades (Bronze, Natural Brown, Deep Brown, Ash Brown and Crimson). I bought the Ash Brown shade and it’s perfect match for me. I have black hair and medium skin tone.
Like the cushion, this one comes in black and rose gold packaging. It’s really thin and light. There are a couple of bad things with being so then though. Firstly, the pencil lead tends to break easily because it’s so thin. And the other thing is the brush on the other end. I personally prefer larger brush. I find this brush being so thin, has shorter and more stiff bristles which can brush away the colour I’ve applied too easily. Not a big deal though. I just use a different brush.
What I Think
Hmm, so the conclusion is, I really like two out of three. I really like the fluid lip tint, and I’m thinking of buying more shades. And I’m definitely repurchasing the brow pencil. But I am really disappointed I don’t like the cushion foundation more. I hope it will improve for spring. But like I said above, given the creamy nature of the formula, it may not be that great for warmer months.
Happy Shopping Everyone! :)
