I’ve never tried A’pieu lip products before, but when I was browsing online, the shade of the True Matte really lured me into buying it :) From the pictures online it reminded me of the YSL Rouge Pur Couture No. 52. So I really wanted to see if this would be a good dupe. As for the Smudge Tint Stick… Why did I get this shade? It’s so not me. Hmm…
Anyway, here are some first comments on both of these lippies :)
True Matte Lip Stick
This is true to its name, it is a true matte. It is completely matte in finish, no satin-ness to it at all, or creaminess. So much so that it can be a little unforgiving on your lips if there is any hint of dryness. If you have nice hydrated lips, the lipstick goes on smoothly and settles to a soft chalk like matte. It doesn’t settle into lines. It doesn’t feel overly dry on the lips, but it’s definitely not a hydrating lipstick!
Although the True Matte Lip Sticks are not a new product in the A’pieu range, I think this shade is new. And this shade is really pretty. In the swatch it’s hard to see that there is a slight neon in the shade. Very much like the YSL Rouge Pur Couture No.52. But the YSL is a little more pink and has a satin finish. The A’pieu True Matte is also similar to the Espoir Lip Stain Chiffon Glow PK001 Pink Pleasure and 3CE Lip Lacquer in Showtime. You can see in the swatches that the Espoir leans more orange, while the 3CE is actually a very close match to the True Matte. Both the Espoir and 3CE are chiffon finish liquid lipsticks (even though they look glossy in the pic!). Both are good options for this kind of shade if you don’t like matte lipsticks.
The A’pieu lipstick case is smooth metal and the closure is magnetic. Which is kinda cool :)
Smudge Tint Stick
I’m usually a bright lipstick person, so to be honest, when I opened this one, I was like “Huh? Why is the shade so dark? Did I get the right shade?”. I can’t remember what happened. But the shade in the picture online looked lighter and more pinky coral, not so brown… Though the formula is really nice and smooth. It settles to a smooth creamy satin finish. It didn’t really seem like a soft matte as per the description. It’s not as pigmented as a lipstick, but more pigmented than a balm. On the lips it feels comfortable and hydrating and doesn’t settle into lines.
Even though it’s called a “Tint Stick”, wiping off the product from my lips, it didn’t seem to leave a tint or stain. Hmm…. maybe the shade was too close to my lips to be able to tell??
Overall, I’m really happy with the True Matte Lip Stick. I think it’s definitely a good dupe for the YSL. And the shade really brightens my skin tone. As for the Smudge Tint Stick… I really need to get the right shade for me…
Happy Shopping Everyone! :)
